Homemade Halloween

One of my favorite things about where we live is the town events. Halloween is one of my favorites. It’s always fun with family because there is a lot of thought that goes into the costumes.

This year I am pregnant and in the throws of first trimester, so coming up with a costume idea was hard. I put it off and put it off as I listened to Sam rattle off ideas. We talked about David and Goliath, dressing up as S’mores, and countless other things. But Sam eventually settled on a rocket ship. When I asked him what Timmy would be, he said, “Moon and stars, of course.” Oh, well, duh then.

I tried to sway him in another direction. How was I going to manage two homemade costumes when I couldn’t even get off the couch? But it was the night before Halloween when all through the house the children were bathing, and my time was running out. I asked him again, and he said, “Rocket ship, Mama.” I looked at Mark and said, “We’re going to make this happen.”

So we set to work when the kids should have been in bed and built the bones of the costume. We finished it the next day after a harried trip to Wal-Mart for a few supplies to make Timmy’s, and in the end, I’m glad we did. It turned out cute and the boys were excited!

The helmet for Sam’s costume made it. Thanks, Daddy! thumb_DSC_0204_1024

Look at those happy cuties!thumb_DSC_0210_1024 thumb_DSC_0216_1024 thumb_DSC_0220_1024

We also made a cute hand print pumpkin. thumb_DSC_0245_1024

We joined the cousins for some trick or treating through town. The donut and slurpee was amazing too!thumb_IMG_9529_1024 thumb_IMG_9530_1024

That light was a hit! Of course some people thought he was a flashlight, but who cares. 😉thumb_IMG_9535_1024

A very happy moon and stars!

What a fun night! Love this tradition.

Thanksgiving 2014

We spent Thanksgiving in Steamboat again. It’s just too much to try to fly out this time of year, and the thought of alternating families just sounds awful. Even though we miss family on this special holiday, we’ve managed to make it fun and have found that we (Mark and I) really enjoy preparing the feast together!

Happy New Year!

We thought it would be fun to throw a New Year’s Eve party with a bunch of our friends and their kids. We got together for dinner and dessert and a little early night countdown fun.

I’m sure they had too much candy, but look at this face …

And everyone looked silly – especially Daddy!

We hung balloons to drop in the basement and all counted down to “midnight” together. I’m not sure what I was thinking giving them horns, but we had fun. It was loud and crazy but loaded with laughs!

Christmas 2013

We kept Christmas very simple this year. Sam insisted on wearing his Santa Claus outfit even though it was two inches too short and Timmy preferred to eat the wrapping paper rather than open a present. 🙂 We enjoyed Christmas Eve service at church and Christmas day at the ranch with new friends. We are so grateful for Jesus our Savior!

Help Portrait 2013

Help Portrait is a global movement of photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists, and other volunteers using their time, gear, and talent to give others something they may have never had before – a portrait! It is such a fun ministry to take part in each year and this year was no different.

DSC_0073_1024 DSC_0081_1024 DSC_0096_1024 DSC_0143_1024DSC_0183_1024It is such a gift to be able to part in loving others together as a family.

Annual Family Bowling Trip

One of our annual advent activities is going bowling together as a family. We always say we’ll go more each year, but never seem to get around to it. We can, however, always count on the month of December. We go bowling together and always have such a blast!

IMG_5872_1024 IMG_5875_1024 IMG_5876_1024Sam did pretty good! He was certainly determined. It was fun watching him. Mark and I took turns bouncing Timmy. A fun family affair!

Squeaky Clean Babies and Homemade Christmas Ornaments

I am starting to really adjust to two babies. Sam continues to be completely enamored with his brother and Timmy continues to be a pretty easy baby. When he sleeps, I make sure to do something special with Sam since so much of my time is spent nursing and caring for little guy.

I had been wanting to make homemade Christmas ornaments for quite some time. I finally bit the bullet and made it happen this year, and boy did we have a lot of fun!DSC_0467_1024

I think they turned out pretty cute. We’re going to give some away to friends at our Gingerbread House Party, and I’ll keep some for our memories’ sake. DSC_0475_1024 IMG_5808_1024

Just look at this sweet face! IMG_5813_1024It gets sweeter after bath time. Daddy snagged this picture one night. Couldn’t you just eat him?
